Anxiety is something that is very common in today's society, but not too many people have knowledge of how to cope with their anxiety. Grounding is a quick tip that can be used to reduce anxiety and panic. Grounding is a technique commonly used to help people lower their anxiety/panic by following a few steps which can be tailored to each individual depending on their needs. Before you begin this technique, rate your level of anxiety from 1-10.

(Locate/think of these things in this order)
5 things that you can see in the room at that moment
4 things that you can feel such as your hand in your hair or feet on the ground
3 things you can hear such as the sound of the TV or feet walking across the floor
2 things that you can smell (perfume or food)
1 good thing about yourself
Once you go through these progressions the level of anxiety you are experiencing should lower. To check if the technique was effective, rate your level of anxiety from 1-10. Repetition is the key though if you still feel a heightened sense of anxiety and there is no change do the exercise again and really focus on the steps. Writing down each step may help in decreasing your level of anxiety as well.
